This last weekend, we (my dad, my mom, my sister Jenny, her husband Brian, their youngest Kristen, my brother Brian, his oldest Shauntel, Boo and I) all went together to California in one big van to attend a funeral of a cousin that passed away due to cancer. The trip was very long and tiring, but it was fun to be all together. It doesn’t happen that often anymore, so it’s something to take advantage of when possible. The trip there was not so good, Kristen wasn’t feeling good and between bathroom breaks, stopping for Kristen, stopping for dinner and rush hour traffic; what should’ve been a 6 hour trip took us close to 9 or 10.
We stopped for dinner at a really nice restaurant, P.H. Woods; everyone ordered something different and it was enjoyable to try all the different dishes.
The funeral was very sad but it was really nice to have a reason to see family that we very rarely see. My sister wrote about our cousin here. We got a lot of visiting in at the luncheon that followed the funeral. Here are a couple shots from the momentous occasion.
After the luncheon we decided to drive the couple of miles to go to the beach. Boo and Kristen hadn’t ever been there. It was really fun to watch them there. Nichelle put up a video on her blog from the beach, mine didn’t turn out very well. Boo was very funny at the beach, I told her to try not to get wet and she did a really good job not but that could’ve been because she almost seemed scared of the water. It would chase her up the beach while she would run screaming away from it.
When we got to the hotel that night Shauntel let me straighten her hair with my flat-iron, it was like a little girls night in.
We came home the next day, the trip took less time because most everyone was feeling better. I was unfortunately feeling car sick most of the trip but kept my composure. Once we arrived in the valley I packed my car and headed home, it was a really long day and we were very glad to be home!
