Can You Believe July is Gone?

Since July is now coming to a close, I wanted to point out that I did a bunch of post on my other blogs. I am really trying to finish/catch-up on my movie blog, but I have post a whole bunch so go give me your opinion on the movies. I have also, along my sister and Mal, have posted a bunch of recipes so go check them out!

There's a First Time for Everything

This is really to the women out there, but I welcome the men's comments as well. How many women out there have never mowed the lawn? To those who have, I commend you. Growing up I never mowed the lawn, either my dad or my brother(s) did it, so I wasn't learned in the ways of the landscaping art form. After I got married, my hubby took the responsibility of mowing and never complained. I know, I'm spoiled. But last week I was inspired by Jordan; she mows her lawn, what a he-woman! or so I thought. When I told her I had never mowed the lawn she laughed at me, and laughed even harder when I told her I didn't even know how to turn it on. So the he-woman she is, she taught me to turn on the lawn mower. Really, that easy? So I got the guts up yesterday to try to mow the yards. I am really shocked at how easy it was! I even attempted to work the weed whacker, and even after a few battle wounds, I did it and finished the lawn. I know, such a cheesy thing to be proud of, but I was. Boo even helped out, she went out and picked all the "gangylions" as she says it, before I mowed. What a helper! So thanks for the inspiration Jordan! ☺

Vacation Part 4

After the first week of camping and having lots of cousins around, we had to be more creative to entertain the next week. Grandma has lots more experience than I do at entertaining a bored child. She made Boo some ghosts out of paper towels and tied them to sticks with fishing line for Boo to fly around the room.
Grandma also made babies out of towels; she's full of wonderful ideas. Luck for us, Grandpa uncovered a pile of sand he had out front and let Boo go at it with water and cups. One day we'll have a proper sandbox, but until then Boo approves of this pile. She was wearing the wrong pants for the occasion and stained them completely, but luckily they were a cheap clearance buy that I wasn't too sad to lose. Grandpa also built a swing for her, rather for the grandkids although Boo thinks it's hers. The first time Bo came up, he brought a couple cross arms that Grandpa used for the top of the swing. Boo would've spent all day out there swinging. I was impressed with his handy work, the swing even holds me up! What a great addition to the cabin.

Here is a video of her swinging, this was before Grandpa fixed it, but she still had a grand ol' time on it.

Alphabetized Birthday

I'm not really one to really go out and party for my birthday, and in all honesty we really didn't do anything out of the ordinary for my birthday, but it was still a good day. Bo was ultra sweet and did things he doesn't normally do and that's a great gift in itself. Everyone always gives a detailed list of what they got for their birthday, but I can't really do that seeing as I didn't really get anything. I've gotten so much lately that I could count any number of things for a present. New laptop, new sewing machine, new house... take your pick. But I will say that I got something specifically for me. We bought two new bookcases that I am so glad to have. We have been in serious need for shelving but haven't really wanted to spend the money on them. So last week I went out and bought two shelves to put in our spare room. Then on my birthday I spent part of the day re-alphabetizing our DVD's and putting them on our new shelves. Yes, that's right, they are alphabetized, but it gets even worse than that, they are alphabetized by box type. OCD, I know. I had a good time doing it, and the finished product looks really nice! (the two black shelves are the new ones)

Bo also did buy me some flowers, ones for the table and ones for planting and all the stuff to go with it. So that has been fun. And thanks for a the birthday greetings from all of you! All in all it was a really good birthday, even if I am a year older!

Hubba Hubba Spongebob

Taking a small break from the vacation posts...

Lately Boo has been saying a lot of funny things. I think we have a comedian on our hands. Last night she was a little rowdy and she was jumping on both of us. She would go from one to the other and just kept on going like the energizer bunny. She was trying to hang on my legs that I had propped up on the other couch, eventually they would fall and she would land on the ground. After a couple time of doing this, she got more hyper with it and would get a running start and jump onto my legs, even after promptings from me to stop doing it. You can see where this is going... The final time she jumped, me legs slipped, and she got hurt. She hit her head, rather face, on a board we have sitting next to the couch. Of course, she went hysterical. I picked her up off the ground and held her while trying not to laugh in asking where she hit. Through her tears she pointed at her forehead-nose-eye, because that's all one body don't ya know. I guess she was mad at me for "dropping" her, so she went and sat with her daddy to get more sympathy. We were watching a movie when this all occurred, so he took her in his lap, held her and patted her back then went back to watching the movie. Within about a minute and a half, she was asleep! What made this even cuter was that she was pants-less, I moved her to her bed before thinking of taking a picture. I know what you are thinking, this isn't funny... I know, I had to set the scene before I could get to her funny remarks. She woke up this morning and came into wake me up as she always does. I wiped the sleep out of my eyes and put my glasses on to discover that she had shiner under her left eye.

Me: Hey, you have a black eye.
Boo: Where?
Me: Right here. Pointing to her bruise
Boo: Oh.

She takes a minute to think about it and then smiles at me and walks off. We go into the kitchen to fix breakfast, while waiting for breakfast to cook she approaches me.

Boo: Mom, I have a bruise.
Me: Oh?... Where?
Boo: Right here. Pointing to her eye. And here. Pointing to her chest. And here. Pointing to her leg.
Me: You don't have bruises on your chest or leg, just a black eye.
Boo: Like Spongebob!
Me: What?
Boo: Spongebob had a black eye. He hit himself with the toothpaste. It was funny. Laughing. With the toothpaste!

She is now grinning from ear to ear. How do you argue with that logic?

While we were up north, we were able to go to church with my parents. We usually sit on the back row so we can make a quick exit if needed. This particular Sunday, we got there a little early and claimed our back bench, later to be joined by Grandpa and then Grandma. Boo can get a little rowdy in church and I'm starting to think that people know that because no one sat in the row in front of us. Church starts and still no one in front of us. About 5 minutes into the meeting the Missionaries walk in and spot the open bench in front of us. They proceed to sit, Boo watches as the do so. As they take their seat, Boo turns to me and says in an almost whisper "Hubba Hubba". (Thanks to Jenny and Nichelle for teaching her that while we were camping!) I'm now shaking my head thinking "She's started early. We're in trouble..." I don't think the Missionaries heard her, or if they did, they didn't acknowledge that they did. Knowing my luck, they probably did hear it, and thought it was me instead of the cute "innocent" 2-year old.

Vacation Part 3

Dallan and Steph brought this bubble machine with them and the girls just had a grand ol' time with it. It may be something I need to invest in!

Boo has such a good time playing with cousins for a week. Since we have returned home, she has been thoughrally bored. The kids spent a lot of time hanging out on the deck and running around. They liked going down to the lake and looking for bugs, digging in the dirt and getting as dirty as possible. That's what camping is all about, right?

Vacation Part 2 continued again...

I took some video while they were playing with the ladybugs. Boo just loved playing with the ladybugs!

Vacation Part 2 continued...

Nichelle took some really great pictures while she was up camping. I thought this one of Boo was really cute. Up close and personal!
She was also at the top of the mountain and she tooks some really great pictures. Isn't it interesting how each camera takes different pictures. I think this one just turned out awesome!

Vacation Part 2

While we were at the top of the mountain Bo climbed a pole, it hasn't been used for a long time. It was a little wobbly, but he braved it (after he check it to be safe).
At the top of Trego there is a pole that was struck by lightning many years ago and has become the home to a hive? family? tribe? colony? of ladybugs. It is the most amazing thing to see. You always come away from it with at least one lady bug friend. On our drive home, I discovered one on my head that came along for the ride. Anyway, here are some pictures from up top, there was a beautiful sunset so I couldn't resist taking some pictures.

Vacation Part 1

On the way up, I went through the valley so I could go to Sam's club and pick up Rhiannon and Kristen. I got to see Mallory in the short time I was there. I'm very glad too, she has since moved to Utah and I'm sad to not have her "close". I guess we'll just have to plan vacations to Utah now... :)

I know I said I was going to do slide shows, but I wanted to include this picture because Boo is modeling her newest shoes. We bought some boot from Outdoor Adventure Kid while my brother and sister-in-law were here. Aren't they cute? I know, I know. We live in the desert, when are we going to need rain boots? Well, actually it has been raining here a lot lately and who doesn't need boots to make mud pies in, right?
We had such a good time camping. We wish we would've had Bo there more, he needed the de-stress time, but he had to work. I think Boo's favorite part was that she didn't have to be constantly washed up. She got down-right dirty there. She learned the proper ways of hunting bugs from the boys. She got to play in the sand and dirt.

Vacation

Okay, I said I'd post about our "vacation" so here it is. I'm going to do it in a couple posts so I don't overwhelm you. I also thought I'd do slide shows because I took a LOT of pictures! So to save on time for me in the uploading process, I'm doing slide shows with captions.

A little preamble to these posts is probably to explain what the Homestead is. Lucky for me, my brother posted a nice explanation last summer for his readers. All I could really add to this is how wonderful it is to have a place to go to escape the stresses of life. And thanks to Grandpa Austin, we have an awesome cabin to stay in. Isn't it amazing?
Isn't that a great pile of sand Boo is playing in? She had a hay-day dumping water from the bucket onto the sand. Too bad grandpa uncover the sand after all the cousins left, they would've had a good time getting dirty.

This is the staircase that Bo and I got for the cabin. We got it from... some friends (I don't know if I'm supposed to say where we got it... no, we didn't steal it, it was donated, but... I don't know, I'm crazy!); I think it's pretty cool. It adds character!

This picture I took for Carrie. Here is my truck from High school, this is Rusty (I didn't name him). He, I think it's a he, has been retired since. He now lives at the Homestead and my dad put him to work helping load and move rocks.

Enjoy the vacation posts!

Kay's Big Day

Today is the big day. Kay is 26 years old today. Text her, call her, send a telegraph to wish her a happy birthday.

Dr. Horrible

This will only be up today, but it is humorous. I got a kick out of it, and will await the release of the real DVD. Check it out today (the 20th) because it won't be up tomorrow. I can't get enough of the music! And who doesn't love Doogie Howser?!
Dr. Horrible: "Destroying the status quo. Because the status is not quo. The world is a mess and I just need to rule it!" Classic!
**Click on the picture and it will take you to the site. You have to watch it in 3 parts.

M.W.C. (Missing, Went Camping)

Well we are back... Boo and I have been camping for the last 2 weeks and have enjoyed the piece and quiet of the woods. We're still not home quite yet, we made a pit stop up north to visit grandparents before going home sometime next week. I just wanted to let everyone know that we didn't die after not posting for 2 weeks, that's not normal for me! I have loads of pictures to post, but I'll wait until I get home to do that. Boo had a great time camping, she got dirty and played with lots of cousins. Camping may just be her new favorite thing! Bo was able to join us for a little bit, but he is so good to us, he stayed home and worked so we could enjoy the fresh mountain air! I had a lot of time to read while I was in the woods, and I finished Harry Potter. By finish, I mean I read the last 3 books there. It was nice to have the time to read them together, and I really enjoyed the story. I will admit after finishing my first series of books ever, that I was surprisingly captivated by them. I thought I wouldn't like them, and I really enjoyed reading them. I'm already planning to start the series over again. Anyway, pictures to come!!

Side note: For those of you who enjoy the use of Google Reader will get a kick out of this, I leave for 2 weeks and come back to read blogs and I have 130 posts to read from all of you! It's going to take me 2 weeks just to read all of your news!! ☺
